The forklift driver should ideally be able to stand for an 8 hour shift. In nearly all work settings, they will be allowed to have a half-hour lunch break and two short coffee breaks during the day. It is very important that the operator of the forklift not be prone to reckless driving or rage of any type.
Training
Forklift training is often completed on the job. Training would often include safety and control training, that could be accomplished in various ways. These can include videos, lectures and testing. A performance test will also be done on the forklift. After the tests have been done successfully, a license can be issued. This license has to be renewed according to state and provincial laws and based on shop procedures. In bigger establishments such as manufacturing or retail facilities, forklift operators may work in a warehouse department. Lift truck operators may also work in other areas, depending on the businesses requirements.
