How to Use a Forklift
Forklifts are material handling machinery that could transport cargo. Most commonly, these equipment are utilized in certain industries to move heavy supplies in a wide variety of environments like supply companies, warehouses and airports. Anyone operating a lift truck should be taught to use the equipment cautiously. It is essential to be totally aware of one's surroundings when driving a forklift. Forklifts are designed to run on gasoline, propane, batteries or diesel. Regular lift trucks are common in a wide range of commercial applications and are truly not difficult to use with proper training. The following steps outline the fundamentals of operating a lift truck:

1 Familiarize yourself with the levers that will be used to maneuver the cargo and to transport the item from one location to another. The levers could be found to the steering wheel's right side.
2 The first lever could move the tines up and down. Pulling the lever towards you moves the blades up, and pushing the lever away from you moves them down. Tines should always be kept near the ground except when loading or unloading.
3 The other two levers control the tilt and the left/right movement of the forks. The forks are designed to tilt between 15 and 30 degrees. It is recommended that you practice prior to picking up a load. Utilizing the second lever, push it away from your body to tilt the blades forward, and pull it towards your body to tilt the tines back.
4 Lever number 4 is utilized to control the side to side movement of the forks from left to right. Simply move the lever in the direction of where you would like the blades to move: right in order to move the forks right and left in order to move the blades left.
5 Cautiously approach the cargo. Lower the tines and carefully drive forward until the forks slide under the load. Then lift the blades a few centimeters by pulling the lever towards your body. If the load is top-heavy, you should tilt the forks backwards a little for balance.
6 Warn other people and employees when the lift truck is approaching by honking and take safety precautions by slowly taking corners and honking. Approach the area where you would be working carefully. Control the levers to maneuver the load to where it is going. When the load is placed, reverse gears and carefully back away.
7 A forklift stops the same way as an automobile. The brake is situated to the left side of the accelerator. Once stopped, put the gear into "park."
