For the use of forklifts, there are several health and safety rules governing their use. Forklifts are big industrial machinery that could be dangerous and need to be handled with safety in mind. The rules and regulations state that the driver needs to carry out daily inspections on the forklift and more thorough inspections each and every week and on a monthly basis. The following inspections must be carried out on the lift truck:
Lift Truck Brakes - brakes on lift trucks are key features which should be double and triple checked. A brake inspection is done with different pressures and pedal heights to determine the sensitivity of the brakes. The brake lights should be inspected at the same time.
The Tires - forklift tires are also important for the safe performance of the forklift truck and to the braking system. All the tires must be correctly checked to ensure they are inflated to the right pressure and that there are no punctures in the tires.
Controller - the lift truck controller system is checked by operating the forks and the release to know that the system is in good working order. Any hint of problems should immediately reported and tended to. The lift truck should not be utilized until the controller system has been fixed.
Steering Wheel - the driver must check the forklift steering wheel in order to make sure the turning of the wheel is correct. Lift truck safety depends on the steering wheel working correctly and responding well. There are different kinds of inspections which could be done to determine the performance of the steering wheel.
Engine Oil - the Removing the oil dip stick from the engine with help determine if the engine requires oil. The dipstick will show both the oil level and the colour of the oil. The oil must be refilled if the level is too low. If the colour is off, there might be contamination happening.
Fire Extinguisher - lift trucks are required by law to carry a fire extinguisher. This fire extinguisher would have to be checked to ensure it will function correctly in the event of a fire. Different types of fire extinguisher need to be checked in certain ways. Like for instance, a dry chemical extinguisher must be shaken.
