A type of machinery in the material handling business which can be utilized to lift and transport loads from one location to another is called a forklift. Each forklift component has a specific function. Different parts can be utilized to move the load either horizontally or vertically.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the components which lift and lower the load. There are different types of masts utilized for raising loads to different heights: duplex, triplex, quad and simplex.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four various ways of being powered: gas, electric, diesel and propane. The battery is situated in the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is situated on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is beneath the rear of the truck.
Cab
Positioned in the middle of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The gas pedal, steering wheel, tilting controls, brake and lifting controls are all located inside the cab.
Frame
Carrying all the largest forklift components is the frame of the truck. This consists of the counterweights located at the rear that prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the driveshaft, axles and wheels.
