Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts consist of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, connected to make an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is vertically raised. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges to be able to keep the employees safe and help to secure their tools.
The scissor lift has a low profile, best suited for smooth surfaces like pavement, hard dirt surfaces and concrete. These equipment utilize either a combustion engine or electric motor to be able to power the lifting mechanism and move the lift. The operator would need to move the lift itself if she or he needs to travel horizontally, as the lift mechanism only operates the lift in a vertical way.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The standard scissor lift and the rough terrain scissor lift utilize identical lifting technology. The main difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base which is specifically made for surfaces which are not even. These units also offer oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive so as to navigate through muddy and difficult terrain easily.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift uses a telescoping beam which elevates both vertically and diagonally. This model has a small work platform which houses controls in order to control the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics which move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift unit.
Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms that are connected with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting machinery has a bucket or a small work platform that is outfitted with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are made to be able to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast so as to lift a work platform vertically into the air. Normally, these lifts are pneumatic powered or electrically powered and are self-propelled machines. These machinery offer a great solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is very vital to note that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road use.
